YOU WILL BELIEVE A MONGOOSE CAN TALK!

What Was The "Dalby Spook"- Poltergeist - Familiar - House Spirit - Or An Extra-Special Little Mongoose?

GEF THE TALKING MONGOOSE HAS BEEN DESCRIBED AS THE EIGHTH WONDER OF THE WORLD.
He sang songs.

He mimicked other animals and sounds.

He could read minds.

He was able to move objects through the air although he was no where near them.

He chatted with visitors from around the world, sometimes using vulgar language. But they could not see him, because he said he could become invisible whenever he wanted to.

All the time living in the walls of a remote farmhouse located on the windswept coast of the Isle of Man.

To the Irvings, especially their teenage daughter, Gef was not a frightening creature but the family’s pet who could feast on biscuits, chocolate and bananas, and helped them keep the stoves lit. But to others he was considered a “monstrosity,” a freak of nature, an abomination to God.

Gef himself seemed confused about his identity. He once said he was from another dimension, that he was a spirit, but took that back by by intimating, “If I were a spirit how could I kill rabbits.?” When quizzed as to why he was so reclusive Gef said he was not a pleasant sight to behold. “I am a freak. I have hands and I have feet and if you saw me you’d faint, you’d be petrified, mummified, turned into stone or a pillar of salt!”

In addition to original material, included is the full text of the 1936 book by psychic researcher Harry Price. Exceedingly rare, copies have been selling for upward of $1,000 among collectors.

For here are other strange stories – such as the talking stove, the Squonk, and the Bell Witch, as presented by Tim R. Swartz and today’s leading investigators of the strange and unknown. This is one of the top Fortean stories of all time. An occult masterpiece. An adventure into the unknown, and the supernormal.

Secret Files Show ET Visitation "Cannot Be Ruled Out"
DEFENCE chiefs "can't rule out the idea" that aliens were visiting or observing earth and must “keep an open mind”, top secret documents obtained by Sun Online reveal.

The files, which have not yet been released to the public, also reveal how intelligence and defence chiefs within the Ministry of Defence were “at war” about whether to investigate UFOs.

The MoD decided to release all its UFO-related documents in 2008 - and all were made public apart from two, which have now been seen by Sun Online.

In one bombshell file, radar experts state: "...we cannot rule out entirely the idea of extra-terrestrial observation/visitation, either covert or overt.

“Our current policy to retain an open mind on these matters is therefore probably correct."

In another 1997 report MoD intelligence officers state: "The only logical conclusion that we can come to is that we do not know if UAPs [unidentified aerial phenomena] represent a threat to the defence of the realm.

"We cannot eliminate the possibility."

The files show how relations became strained between the open-minded Defence Intelligence Staff (DIS) - the MoD’s intelligence faction - and the sceptical Sec(AS) department, which handled UFO policy issues.
Government at war over UFOs

Following one meeting between the opposing sides, one member of DIS writes about a female member of Sec(AS): "...she believes that all sightings are explainable

“When asked on what basis of logic or analysis this had been done there was none."

Another document reveals how Sec(AS) staff angered intelligence staff by only forwarding to them UFO reports they deemed credible.

According to the files, DIS wanted to do in-depth research into the UFO phenomenon including going back through the archives and looking for patterns.

The documents, which span the years 1992 to 2003, show Sec(AS) were worried about this, stating they had “some concerns about what is planned”.

They were concerned that by researching UFO sightings, the MoD would contradict what they had told Parliament, which is that the UFO topic had "no defence significance" and wasn’t being studied in depth.

"How are we able to maintain the line that the Government's policy is not to examine reports [of UFOs] further and that we have nothing to hide?"a 1997 letter from Sec(AS), included in the files, reads.

Nick Pope, who headed up the UK’s UFO project - as part of Sec (AS) - was sent the documents by the MoD before their public release and shared them with Sun Online.

He said: “These files show how different divisions at the MoD were at war with each other over the UFO issue.

“I had an excellent working relationship with colleagues in the Defence Intelligence Staff and because I had a high security clearance and the same open-minded views on the phenomenon, our positions were seamless.

“Sadly, things broke down after 1994, when I was promoted and moved to another job.

“For whatever reasons, my successors clearly didn't enjoy the same good working relationship with the DIS that I had, and things went wildly off-track.

“It was ridiculous for my successors to try to filter reports by forwarding only those they deemed credible, because they had no clue how intelligence works, and were clearly regarded with contempt by the real experts.
The truth is out there (soon)

“I don't know if it was scepticism, laziness, or even religious belief - some government officials oppose serious UFO research because they believe the phenomenon is demonic - but for whatever reason, some of my successors wanted to get out of the subject altogether.”

Although the UFO project officially ended in 2009, Nick believes the phenomenon is still being investigated by intelligence chiefs.

“While they may think they won the battle in 2009 when the MoD terminated its UFO project, intelligence officers don't stop being interested in anomalous sightings if they think there are threats and opportunities in terms of technology acquisition.

"This is irrespective of whether they believe the good-quality UFO sightings are generated by foreign military aircraft or drones, exotic atmospheric plasma phenomena - or extra-terrestrial visitation.

“I'm sure they're still looking at such things, but outside the scope of a formally-constituted UFO program.

"As seems to have been the case in the US with the Pentagon's AATIP program, the UK's current UFO project is probably hidden by virtue of being embedded in an intelligence program looking at future aerospace threats."

The documents are due to be released later this year and Nick hopes they will be placed in the National Archives as soon as possible, digitized and available free of charge so the public can see for themselves "the dramas and disagreements" the UFO subject caused.

“This is a fascinating part of the official history of the most bizarre subject the MoD ever handled and I think people would be surprised, amused and intrigued to find out that MoD officials got drawn into just the same believer versus sceptic arguments about UFOs that one sees anywhere else,” he said.

“The only difference was that the stakes were higher: the prize was the chance to set government policy on the issue.”

Astronomer Defends Claim that ‘Oumuamua Could Be Alien Craft
By Brett Tingley
The discovery of ‘Oumuamua continues to prove itself one of the most fascinating and mysterious astronomy stories of our time. It all began in October 2017 when astronomers using the Pan-STARRS telescope in Hawaii spotted a strange object passing through our Solar System at a high velocity. The object defied classification and still does, and its origin remains unknown. What is known is that it originated from somewhere outside of our Solar System, making it the first known interstellar object to visit our neck of the cosmic woods.

Almost immediately after its discovery, ‘Oumuamua’s odd behavior and characteristics caused many to speculate that it could be an alien craft or probe sent to explore our Solar System. That speculation grew stronger in November 2018 when astronomers Shmuel Bialy and Avi Loeb of the Harvard Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics published a study arguing that ‘Oumuamua’s anomalous acceleration and direction could mean the object isn’t a comet or asteroid, but instead an artificial craft or probe propelled by a “light-sail,” meaning it uses the ‘winds’ of solar radiation to propel it through space.

Of course, those claims attracted controversy, criticism, and outright jeers in some cases. How could two of the most respected astrophysicists in the country claim any possibility that an anomalous object in space could be artificial? How dare they! Don’t they know that science is supposed to suppress the imagination as opposed to ignite it? In response to the controversy, one of the paper’s authors sat down for an interview with Israeli news outlet Haaretz to discuss ‘Oumuamua and the resistance to acknowledge any possibility that ‘Oumuamua could be from an extraterrestrial civilization.

I don’t care what people say. It doesn’t matter to me. I say what I think, and if the broad public takes an interest in what I say, that’s a welcome result as far as I’m concerned, but an indirect result. Science isn’t like politics: It is not based on popularity polls.

That’s what professor Avi Loeb, chair of Harvard’s astronomy department, sat down with Oded Carmeli at Haaretz to share his perspective on the ‘Oumuamua controversy. According to Loeb, he only went public with claims that ‘Oumuamua just might be artificial after lengthy discussions with colleagues. “Scientists of senior status said themselves that this object was peculiar but were apprehensive about making their thoughts public,” Loeb says. “it could be that I’m committing image suicide, if this turns out to be incorrect. On the other hand, if it turns out to be correct, it’s one of the greatest discoveries in human history.”

Loeb adds that as a scientist with tenure, he doesn’t understand why so many other stodgy academics in ivory towers are afraid to take risks and imagine possibilities which may at first seem outlandish:

If you’re not ready to find exceptional things, you won’t discover them. Of course, every argument needs to be based on evidence, but if the evidence points to an anomaly, we need to talk about an anomaly. Who cares if this anomaly appeared or did not appear in science-fiction books?

The whole interview is worth a read for anyone interested in astronomy or the search for alien life. In it, Loeb lays out his entire argument for why we must be open to the possibility that ‘Oumuamua is a spacecraft or probe. It’s important to note that Loeb never comes out saying definitively that ‘Oumuamua is an alien craft, only that we must be open to the possibility that it could be based on the available evidence. Still, science has a long history of persecuting those who go against the paradigm or challenge popular opinions. Will Loeb be remembered in the future as a rebellious hero like Galileo, or a crank suffering from wishful thinking?

The Mystery of the "Cocaine Mummies"
By J.P. Robinson

Evidence which shows that ancient Egyptians had already crossed the Atlantic 3,000 years ago, long before Columbus in 1492, comes not only from the mimicking of cultural traditions as seen in Peru and the Canary Islands where evidence of trepanning and mummification has been found, but from the actual Egyptian mummies themselves.

Incredibly, in 1976, Dr. Michelle Lescott from the Museum of Natural History in Paris received a sample from the mummified remains of Egyptian Pharaoh Ramses the Great to study. Using an electron microscope, she discovered grains of tobacco clinging to the fibers of his bandages.

This initial discovery was berated by the authorities and her senior colleagues insisted that she had simply observed “contamination from modern sources”, maybe from some old archaeologist smoking a pipe in the vicinity, or perhaps she had found the traces of a workman’s sneeze? Tobacco first came to Europe from South America during the time of Columbus, 2700 years later, ruling out the possibility of tobacco being present during the reign of Ramses circa 1213 BC.

Some years later, Dr. Svelta Balabanova, a forensic toxologist at the Institute of Forensic Medicine at ULM, followed up on Dr. Lescott’s findings with yet more intriguing evidence. In order to eliminate the possibility of contemporary contamination, Dr. Balabanova obtained samples of intestinal tissue from deep inside Ramses, rather than the external layers of skin and cloth, and much to her amazement she discovered traces of cannabis, coca and tobacco laid down in his body cells ‘like rings on a tree’.

For her fellow researchers this still was not enough proof despite her excellent reputation, as such evidence contradicted conventional explanations of intercontinental contact thousands of years in the past. But, a decade later in 1992, seven ancient Egyptian mummies were flown from the Cairo Museum to Munich for further analysis.

Dr. Balabanova conducted a series of gas chromatography tests on samples of the seven mummies, one of which was the mummified remains of Henut Taui, 'the lady of the two lands', a priestess who lived sometime during the reign of the 21st Dynasty of ancient Egypt around 1000 BC. Each individual revealed the presence of nicotine and cocaine, and both the mummies and the results were deemed entirely credible.

Warm Up to Ancient Intercontinental Travel

‘It may be therefore implied that Egypt obtained these plants in trade with far flung urbanity from all over the ancient world’, wrote author/researcher Dr. Alexander Sumach . ‘Prepare to warm up to the plausible notion of intercontinental cultural contact that was either sustained, or else in play to some extent during every phase of human history.’

Professor Martin Bernal, a historian at Cornell University, is one of many scholars who conceded that ancient trade links which vastly predate present calculations must have existed; ‘We’re getting more and more evidence of world trade at an earlier stage.’ Besides, he is not alone in his hypothesis, more details of transoceanic contact can be found in my latest book The Myth Of Man .

History tells us that on September 20, 1519, Ferdinand Magellan set out from the coast of Spain with his expedition, intent on being the first man in recorded history to successfully circumnavigate the world by sea. Despite many sources claiming that he succeeded in this immense task, the truth of this tale states that having become embroiled in a local war, Magellan was killed during battle on April 27, 1521.SLXL

According to historic accounts, it was his personal slave Enrique of Malacca who ultimately succeeded where his master had failed, and managed to navigate the vast ocean the entire way around.

History speaks of many ancient crossings of both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans in the past but evidence has come to light which extends the timeline of these activities thousands of years beyond the presently accepted figures.

Manu People Reached Pitcairn Island

Pitcairn Island , an isolated volcanic formation which lies 1,350 miles (2172.6 km) south-east of Tahiti in the Pacific Ocean, was first officially sighted in 1767. The population of Pitcairn today is made up of descendants from survivors of the 215-ton Royal Navy transport ship the HMS Bounty, which was the victim of a dramatic mutiny in 1789 by Master’s Mate Fletcher Christian, who ultimately led his fellow mutineers to the island before disembarking then burning the famous ship. Here they established what they must have believed to have been the first colony in such a remote spot.

But they were not the first.

In 1820, a rock inscription written in the Libyan dialect of ancient Egyptian was reportedly discovered on Pitcairn Island that read:

Our crew, wrecked in a storm, made land thank God.

We are people from the Manu region. We worship Ra

in accordance with the scripture. We behold the sun

and give voice.

Manu is a highland area of Libya. So, the question remains how did such distant travelers reach these shores in ancient Egyptian times and why has this particular piece of evidence been ignored ever since? Is it because officially no sailors ever crossed the Pacific that far back in history?

John L. Sorenson and Carl L. Johannessen studied evidence from archaeology, historical and linguistic sources, ancient art, and conventional botanical studies, which revealed ‘conclusive evidence that nearly one hundred species of plants, a majority of them cultivars, were present in both the Eastern and Western Hemispheres prior to Columbus’ first voyage to the Americas.’

Their research paper ‘Scientific Evidence for Pre-Columbian Transoceanic Voyages’ explains that many plant species, over half of which consisted of flora of American origin that spread to Eurasia or Oceania, can only have been distributed to foreign shores via transoceanic voyages led by ancient mariners.

‘This distribution could not have been due merely to natural transfer mechanisms, nor can it be explained by early human migrations to the New World via the Bering Strait route,’ state the authors.

It Had to be Ancient Transoceanic Voyages

Sorenson and Johannessen claim that, ‘The only plausible explanation for these findings is that a considerable number of transoceanic voyages in both directions across both major oceans were completed between the 7th millennium BC and the European age of discovery.’

Such controversial scientific findings contradict accepted notions of the plausible dates associated with transoceanic travel, but as the authors insist, ‘Our growing knowledge of early maritime technology and its accomplishments gives us confidence that vessels and nautical skills capable of these long-distance travels were developed by the times indicated.’

The presence of anomalous maps only serves to reinforce the notion that trans-oceanic travel took place thousands of years earlier than is currently accepted.

- WHAT THE BEEP DO WE KNOW DEPARTMENT -

Beeping Creatures
By Regan Lee
An interesting characteristic of Bigfoot, UFO and alien encounters is the electronic, beeping sound many witnesses report hearing during these incidents.

(My personal experience with beeping sounds: I’ve occasionally have been abruptly awakened late at night, and yes, around 3:00 am, because of a loud beeping sound in my head. The sound is very distinct, very mechanical, and all I can say is, as loony as it sounds, it’s from inside my head, not an exterior source, like from a truck outside or someone’s alarm clock. This has happened several times.)

In Peter Guittilla’s Bigfoot Files, he writes about a 1979 report of Bigfoot activity in the area where the witnesses lived -- hearing screams, etc. -- as well as beeping sounds:

“One night in April at 2:30am my husband woke me to listen to odd beeping sounds coming from the woods. These have not been identified and continued on and off for about a year.” ~ p136

Guittilla recounts other Bigfoot stories, where witnesses say they hear all kinds of unusual sounds coming from areas reported to have Bigfoot activity, including coming from underground: The sounds which often occur in combinations, are described variously as buzzing, beeping, whirling, humming ...” ~ p 197 Bigfoot Files

In The Hunt for The Skinwalker, a “hairy humanoid” was seen racing across the property (the ranch in Utah, home of the skinwalker phenomena) The rancher shot at the creature, being sure he hit it:

”. . .but the creature barely flinched. . . . When he chased after it, he heard a weird sound that resembled a soft whine combined with an electronic beeping noise. ~ p179, Hunt for the Skinwalker

The following is from an interesting report on “skinwalker ranch” type phenomena that occurred in the 1970s on a ranch in Elvert County, Colorado:

On another evening, very annoyed at the repeated blows, Jim hurried outside with his rifle and fired at the fleeing bigfoot. Jim is a good shot and the creature was hit although without seeming to be too inconvenienced by the fact. It must have been wearing a bulletproof vest! Subsequently the people at the ranch heard a hoarse crying sound mixed with a kind of beep-beep. ~ From Prologue: US Air Force, UFOs and Bigfoot, the Great Deception.

UFOs and Aliens

Some think alien abductions are the work of aliens from space, the military (MILABS) or both. Bonnie Meyer, author of Alien Contact: The Messages They Bring, writes, in a section titled “Scanning:”

”If you are Healings a lot of beeping sounds, it is probably a small scanning instrument. this scanning if kind of like a mind probe. I doubt you could tell the difference where or who it’s coming from.”

Barney and Betty Hill experienced hearing beeping sounds on the night of their sighting. In Captured! the beeping they heard is described as being “code like,” with several beeps, a pause, then more beeps. Were the beeps some kind of alien Morse code?

Researcher, author and experiencer Raymond E. Fowler has experienced this beeping sound while in asleep (similar to my experiences) and dreams about aliens, making two entries in his journal:

January 27, 1995: I awoke twice to a electronic beeping sound. the second time I thought it was my watch alarm sounding and actually reached to shut if off before the beeping stopped. My right nostril is still sore.”

The next day, January 28, Fowler experienced it again:

I woke up again to a electronic beeping sound and again reached for my watch alarm, but it was not the watch. My right nostril is still sore. ~ ”Synchrofile: Amazing Personal Encounters with Synchronicity and Other ~ Page 188

In UFO Mysteries: A Reporter Seeks the Truth, author Curt Sutherly recounts the story of Harold Butcher . In 1965 Butcher, was working on his parents farm in New York state. Butcher noticed that the animals were panicking over something, at the same time, the milking machine Butcher was working abruptly stopped:

”Looking out a window, Harold saw a large elliptical object land about a quarter-mile away. The object emitted a smell of burned gasoline and a red vapor clouded its rim. A strange beeping sound was heard. the object departed by ascending straight up into the clouds.

What is the cause of this beeping sound? Why does a consistent characteristic -- beeping -- occur with diverse phenomena such as UFOs, various alien beings, robots and Bigfoot?

Maybe it’s a mistake to assume that these things are not connected; they may share a relationship with each other in ways we don’t readily see. Some see Mothman, some Bigfoot, others weird aliens or craft, but if they are manifestations of the same kind of phenomena, it isn’t so strange. If they come from the same source, as John A. Keel, Andrew Colvin, and so many others have suggested, it makes some sense. (Keel calls it the “superspectrum.”)

If this source, that throws out all kinds of weird things at us, lulls us into a hypnotic, trance like state, beeping would be a way to induce that state. In his Mothman Prophecies, Keel suggests beeping sounds have something to do with lulling us into a passive, amnesiatic state:

”There is a kind of posthypnotic suggestion involved in many UFO and psychic incidents. The witness is driving along a road late at night. He hears a beeping sound and lapses into a trance. . . as if he had been preconditioned to lose consciousness at the sound of the beep. Later, he awakes to the sound of another series of beeps.”

The witness wakes up hours later to find he or she is now a victim of missing time.

In some cases, it may be a combination of human involvement, possibly working with some paranormal or alien agencies, to manipulate other UFO, cryptozoological and or alien phenomena. This theory has been suggested to explain cases like Mothman, the Flatwoods creature, UFOs and aliens, as well as Bigfoot.

A seeming glitch in this idea is in the fact that in many of these areas: the area in Utah, location of the Skinwalker ranch, or Pt. Pleasant, West Virginia, home of Mothman, have had a history of paranormal and UFO activity going back hundreds of years. But if we consider that there are human agencies working with this energy in some way, manipulating both it and us, we find that there isn’t a contradiction.

Now the question isn’t if these things are happening, but why are covert human elements so interested?

MIRROR, MIRROR ON THE WALL DEPARTMENT -

The Ghost in the Mirror
Many in the world still do believe that you should cover a mirror if someone dies in a room and their image is reflected in a mirror. As they believe that the mirror will capture the dead person’s soul, thus preventing its entry into heaven. Some old passed down oral traditions state that the Devil invented mirrors for this specific purpose.

Many old mirrors thick and old and silver back stained are said to be haunted by the ghosts of those that died. their image forever frozen or trapped in the glass. Some recent stories on eBay tell of people selling their antique mirrors that were either bought or passed down the generations in their families and said to be very haunted . It is said by some that if a ghost or lost soul wanders your home during the night, a mirror can capture it. An old New Orleans Voodoo way to capture a ghost was to put a large standing mirror in your bedroom door way. When the ghost thinking it is a door enters the mirror it is forever trapped in the rooms that were reflected in it when caught not the real rooms.

Bloody Mary The Face In The Mirror

A urban legend of sorts states: If you go into the bathroom and look into the mirror with the lights off and the room completely black, and then say 'Bloody Mary' thirteen times, a woman will appear and scratch your face off  [wtf?...ed.]. The research into Bloody Mary goes back to 1978, when folklorist Janet Langlois published her essay on the legend. Belief in summoning the mirror-witch was even at that time widespread throughout the U.S.

Mary is summoned whenever young teen aged girls get together for a sleepover, but boys have been known to call on her too. The 'Bloody Mary' legend was common in the early 1970s. Typically performed the "ritual" in bathrooms, because the bathrooms of suburban homes had large mirrors and were easily darkened even during the day since they had no windows. In latter years after the release of the movie Clive Barker's Candyman (1992) calling upon him became more popular. Many do believe the Candyman's Movies premise is based on fact and try summoning him even today.

Helen Lyle is a student who decides to write a thesis about local legends and myths. She visits a part of the town, where she learns about the legend of Cabrini Green and the Candyman, a one-armed man with a hook who appears to you in your bathroom when you say his name five times, in front of a mirror. Of course, Helen doesn't believe all this stuff, but the people of the area are really afraid. When she ignores their warnings and begins her investigation in the places that he is rumored to appear, a series of horrible murders begins.

In the 1998 movie Urban Legend, two co-eds try to summon an evil spirit by chanting 'Bloody Mary.' In an episode of television's The X Files ("Syzygy," original air date 26 January 1996), two teenage girls lure a rival for a boy's affections into the bathroom — and a "Bloody Mary" ritual — during a birthday party. They prevent her from leaving the bathroom, and the camera cuts to the rest of the partygoers downstairs, who hear a crash of breaking glass and a scream.

Mirror ... Mirror on the wall you make my skin creep and crawl. Whose the ghost that resides within... The spirts of the dead the lost or my next of kin!

Fear of mirrors probably arose from the time when the first humans saw their reflections in a pool of water and once they had got over their initial shock of seeing someone or something, believed that the image was their soul or spirit and to endanger it would mean risking injury to the other self. Also since ancient times, mirrors were said to have magical powers, including the power to foretell the future and were considered to be devices of the gods. Thus breaking a mirror would end its powers and bring untold miseries and misfortunes upon the one whose reflection it last held. Or even damning a trapped spirit to a hell that only the Devil himself knew existed.

Mirrors are the perfect example of an everyday household furnishing attached with countless superstitions. Probably the most common belief concerning mirrors is that their breakage causes seven years of bad luck. But does Breaking a mirror with a real ghost locked in it set it free to haunt you? Consider this: Was the ghost trapped their on his own or placed their by some force to trap it to save others from the haunting the ghost could cause? In New Orleans Voodoosit are said to use a grand spell to capture household haunting ghosts in Zombie bottles or large mirrors. The mirrors which render the ghost harmless only to haunt the world that is reflected in the mirror. Not the Real world we live in. One custom unique to New Orleans voodoo is to watch (particularly if it is a bad or evil spirit or ghost) wander into a room or door way reflected in the mirror then to smash it trapping the ghost forever to roam into a different eternity and not haunt your house any longer. And to tell if a old mirror given to you or purchased is haunted place to tall white candles no further then 12 inches apart . Do this at midnight. Focus your eyes at the space between the two candles if it is haunted you will see the ghost!

A common use is that of scrying with a mirror. In Canterbury Tales, "The Squire's Tale" describes a magical mirror that can look over a king's realm; similarly, in The Faerie Queene, Merlin enchants a mirror to have this power. Another example, from the German tales of the brothers Grimm, is Snow White, in which the Wicked Queen consults a magic mirror to determine the identity of the most beautiful woman in the world; this mirror is capable of scrying the forest and finding Snow White. In modern fantasy, the mirror of Galadriel, in J.R.R. Tolkien's fictional universe of Middle-earth, shows things that were, and things that are, and things that yet may be.

Mirrors, along with labyrinths, figure prominently in the work of Argentine writer Jorge Luis Borges, who often used them as symbols of infinity, impersonation, and illusion. In Dreamtigers, he writes of fearing that his reflection would move independently or change shape before his eyes. In Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius, a fictional heresiarch declares that "mirrors and copulation are abominable, since they both multiply the numbers of men."

Similarly, Edgar Allan Poe expresses an aversion to mirrors in The Philosophy of Furniture:

Regarded apart from its reflection, the mirror presents a continuous, flat, colourless, unrelieved surface, – a thing always and obviously unpleasant. Considered as a reflector, it is potent in producing a monstrous and odious uniformity: and the evil is here aggravated, not in merely direct proportion with the augmentation of its sources, but in a ratio constantly increasing. In fact, a room with four or five mirrors arranged at random, is, for all purposes of artistic show, a room of no shape at all. If we add to this evil, the attendant glitter upon glitter, we have a perfect farrago of discordant and displeasing effects.

Ghost And Mirror Superstitions

Never look into a mirror by candlelight, it may show you a very haunted version of your home.

If you stare into a mirror between two tall white candles you might see the spirit of a loved one who has passed away. And their soul is stuck in your mirror.

Always cover a haunted mirror during a thunderstorm lightning will release the ghosts.

It is considered a bad omen to receive a mirror from a deceased persons home as a present.

If a mirror in the house falls and breaks on its own, A evil ghost is trying to escape it's mirror prison.

A baby should never be shown its own reflection before it is a year old, else it will stutter or grow no bigger than it is or die before it turns one.

Many families cover a mirror if someone dies, as they believe that the mirror will capture the dead person’s soul, thus preventing its entry into heaven. When a person is bad in life many say let them be trapped in mirror it is better then going to Hell!

And if someone sees their reflection in a mirror from a room where someone has recently died, they will die soon too.

It is said that if ghost wanders your home during the night, a mirror can capture it.

- MUCH ADO ABOUT SATAN DEPARTMENT -

"Too Friendly" Devil Sculpture Draws Protests
A planned sculpture of Satan in the Spanish city of Segovia has been criticised for being too jolly.

The bronze statue was created as a tribute to a local legend, which says that the devil was tricked into building the city's famous aqueduct.

But residents say that the devil - who is smiling and taking a selfie with a smartphone - looks too friendly.

The artist told BBC News he was surprised by the level of criticism directed at his artwork.

A judge has now ordered the artwork to be put on hold while he looks into whether it is offensive to Christians.

More than 5,400 people - just over 10% of the city's population - have signed a petition calling for the sculpture to be cancelled.

The petition says that because the devil is shown in a "jovial" way, with a phone in his hand, it "exalts evil" and is therefore "offensive to Catholics".

It adds that Satan is supposed to be "repulsive and despicable - not kind and seductive, like that of the 'good-natured devil' without malice" that has been proposed.

But the row has taken the artist, José Antonio Abella, by surprise.

"It seems to me incredible that people would be so fiercely against the sculpture of a devil to commemorate a popular legend, taught to Segovian kids at school," Mr Abella, a former doctor who has taken up art in his retirement, told BBC News.

"I love Segovia. I have lived here for three decades and I was hoping for this sculpture to be a form of demonstration of how thankful I am to Segovia for being my adopted town.

"I haven't received any money whatsoever for this sculpture... I haven't done this for the money but as a personal tribute to the city I call mine. You can imagine how I feel."

City Councillor Claudia de Santos has also called the campaign "unfair and disheartening".

She told El Pais newspaper that she would try to ensure that the sculpture goes ahead as planned.
