Unusual Orb Sighted Near
Encinitas, California
by T. L. KELLER
May 7, 2020; 10:30 PM
Case 108694:
While the sole witness was watching a "surf webcam" video taken at approximately 10:30 PM at Beacon's Beach, Encinitas, California, a small orb with an orange-red "tail/exhaust" moved slowly into view. This occurs at approximately the three-minute mark on the video. Beacon's Beach is a popular spot for swimming, surfing, fishing, and other beach activities and is formally named Leucadia State Beach. The beach is operated by the City of Encinitas and is a California state park. According to the park's website, the park is monitored daily by multiple video security cameras. Based upon the father of the witness' testimony, the video camera was apparently on an automatic record setting, thus it is not clear exactly how the video was viewed by the son. The video camera was mounted on the bluff above the beach and at a 45° angle downward toward the beach. The witness was reported to be older than 18 years of age.
The following is the father's account of the event:
"Around 10:30 pm my son was viewing the surf webcam video located at Beacons in Encinitas. Around the 3 minute mark, you can see an orange object in the lower left quadrant of the screen. We observed the object rise up from the ocean, then submerge. All the while, [we were] able to see the orange object with an orange tail/exhaust, [hovering], then submerge. [T]hen [it] began flashing a white light and moving very fast. When it looked like it was at the horizon, [it] ascended, flashed and then disappeared. The day after this particular [site] had been shut down, the video was gone. Luckily, my son had saved the video."
Commentary
According to the filed report, the object described as a sphere "cast a shadow," left a "trail," "landed in the water," "submerged," "blinked, pulsated, glowed and flashed sequentially." In the video, the orb appears to be relatively small and initially just above the water line. It moves slowly over the waves breaking on the beach, but it does not appear to have submerged into the water. The orange-red glow that slightly trails the object appears to be reflected in the waves along the beach. When the orange-red glow ceases, the object then appears as an even smaller source of white light. Later, during the three-minute video, the object flashes a brilliant white light at irregular intervals and then appears to move toward the distant horizon. It then moves vertically off the screen at what appears to be a considerable speed.
Case Disposition: In Progress.
Because of the compelling nature of the video, once this case is fully investigated a follow-up analysis and final disposition will be provided on mufon.com.
